skycrosssmMy husband, Dave Davis, took this picture a couple of days before we dedicated the "Fallen Hoosier Heroes Memorial for Enduring Freedom" on Flag Day June 14th of this year.  His Step-Dad, CSM Donald Peed, who was a Vietnam Vet(serving 22 years in the Army) started this Memorial back in 2002/3 after what he had experienced from returning home from Vietnam.  He had been spit on and called "Baby Killer" when he stepped off the boat in San Diego.  He decided he wanted to do something for the families and friends of our Fallen Hoosiers after 9/11/2001.

He hand made a cross and put it in his front yard for every Hoosier who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the War on Terrorism.  Unfortunately, Don passed away in September of 2005 from the end effects of Agent Orange which he had contracted while he was in Vietnam.  Dave and his Step-Mom, Carol Hartman Peed, decided to carry on this tradition along with the help of the local VFW, the American Legion, and several dedicated citizens.  We made this a permanent Memorial for the State of Indiana.

If you look at this picture closely, you will see a man(whom I believe in my own mind to be "Don") holding a cross wearing a flowing robe and looking back to his right at another much larger man with a beard who is touching Don's shoulder.  I believe this man to be "God".  You all may think this is 'hog-wash' or even fake.  But I can attest to you, you can not touch-up a picture taken from this particular cell phone.  I believe this was a sign from God that He is pleased with what we are doing.

Eventually Dave wants to start a Scholarship program for the Fallen Hoosiers' children.  You can visit the Memorial at 401 N. Union Street in Westfield, Indiana.   Remember, Thank a Veteran everyday.  We would not have what we have without their sacrifices.  Let Us Never Forget Our Fallen Heroes!
